Plants And Flowers - A Source Of Joy
Waking up to a new day and seeing delightful flowers and plants is always refreshing. In addition to the fact that they create a lasting impression, research has demonstrated the beneficial impacts of plants on our wellbeing and prosperity. A study by Jeannette Haviland-Jones, Ph.D. of Rutgers, observed that flowers prompt feelings of joy.
It is believed that the vibrant colours and looks positively affect our temperaments. They reduce uneasiness and make spaces more inviting. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that so many people want to have plants around them.
Why Should You Choose Artificial Plants?
The days when natural plants were the only option for people are gone. In today's era, artificial plants are making their way to both indoor and outdoor spaces. As we’ve all experienced, sometimes regardless of your best practices and the utmost care, living plants die. This is one of the reasons why artificial or fake plants are so popular.
Fake plants or faux plants, silk plants, fake foliage, or anything you wish to call them offer a simple solution. They'll never grow out of their pots, the leaves won't ever hang down and become yellow, and there's no reason to stress over watering or maintenance. If you need to go on holiday, you don’t need to worry about your plants dying before you get back and having to throw them out.
How Did Fake Plants Enter The World?
Now let's look at some history. Everything has a beginning, and it's interesting to find out how certain things started before they became commonplace. So, let's look at the origins of fake plants.
Contribution of Ancient Egyptians
Flower wreaths made by the ancient Egyptians were shaped from slim plates of horn in various tones. They likely once in a while consisted of leaves of copper which were either plated or had silver coverings. The old Romans dominated in the craft of mimicking blossoms in wax. In this era, craftsmanship achieved a level of flawlessness that is still impressive to this day.
The richest man in Rome, Crassus, is known for transforming the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. He celebrated his victory at Rome with a crown of fake leaves made of gold and silver.
Further Additions
Later on, the Italians popularised them due to their expertise and taste. Later, English, American, and French manufacturers joined them. The Chinese and Japanese also showed extraordinary skill in the creation of fake plants.
These early counterfeit plants were made from kaleidoscopic strips, which were curved together and connected to little pieces of wire… however the first attempts weren't very successful.
Production of Wax-Covered Fake Plants
In the nineteenth century, the Swedish craftsman Emma Fürstenhoff turned out to be globally popular in Europe for her fake plant made of wax. People became curious about this new product as it wasn't something heard of before in Europe.
Later in the twentieth century, Colefax and Fowler, through Constance Spry, created an advanced and stunning, however costly, technique for assembling wax-covered artificial blossoms. This technique depended on the Victorian development of paraffin-covered wax plants.
Advantages Of Artificial Plants Over Real Ones
Artificial plants have proven to be a much more convenient companion than natural plants. In this day and age, where everyone is busier than ever, taking care of real plants has become an extra chore most of us would like to avoid. Below are some of the many benefits of artificial plants.
They Do Not Need a Lot of Care
Faux plants require no daylight, watering, pruning, or the use of fertilisers to grow - meaning you can have beautiful plants without all the work. Even if you clean them every three to four months, it’s much less maintenance than the real alternatives.
Independent of Natural Factors
We all know natural plants require sunlight and when they don’t have access to it, they don’t last long. Their artificial counterparts have no requirements for compost, pesticides, or herbicides. No root decay, diseases and no fertilisers!
Moreover, if you live in a cold area, you won't have to do something about temperature control. So if you love that tropical look but you live in a cool climate, you can still have that beautiful tropical look and feel. Last but not least they don't shed their leaves. This means no waking up in the morning to find yet another bunch of dead leaves on the ground.
No Seasonal Changes
As the seasons change, living plants can shed their flowers and leaves, completely changing their appearance. You may really like the look of the plant in the spring, but come winter they look like a rather sad bunch of bare branches. Changes in seasons do not impact fake plants so you can enjoy that picture perfect look that complements your home or office, all year round.
Fascinating Appearance
Some fake plants look incredibly similar and are practically indistinguishable from the plants they made to look like. Here at artificial plant shop we often here from customers who have just sent up their plants and had visitors over. The common thread in the comments is that their guests thought the plant was real and they couldn’t tell it was artificial until they spent a few minutes studying it in detail.
Move Them Freely
As they don’t require sunlight, fake plants can be moved around anywhere you like. This is a great way to change up your home or office, placing different plants in different areas on a rotating basis to keep things visually fresh. Prefer another shaper, colour or style, just head back to our product range and choose something new! Flower arrangements are a great way to mix things up. Many of our arrangements are made with lots of different flower types, allowing you to rotate the pot around regularly and seeing a whole new side to your flowers!
Adjust The Styling
Styling makes all the difference! You can radically change the look of your fake plants with some styling. Think about spreading the branches out further to create extra width or angling the branches more vertically to increase their height. You’ll be amazed what can be achieved with just a little bit styling. Changing the styling on a regular basis can add the dynamic sense of nature to your space. It’s easiest to style artificial plants when they are warm so you may want to use a hair dryer or heat gun on a low setting (lower is always better so you don’t damage your artificial plants!)

No More Allergies
Genuine plants can be a big problem for those of us with hypersensitivities and allergies. Thankfully fake plants don't come with any of these issues, allowing those of us with allergies to enjoy all the stunning visual effects that plants provide, with none of the drawbacks.
The only thing we highly recommend is dusting your artificial plants on a regular basis if you have allergies. This can be done in the same way you keep dust off of every other item in your house. We prefer using just a damp cloth (no chemicals).
